Stomatas are found on the bottom of the plant to prevent excess water loss. By avoiding direct contact with the sun where the plant is most likely to lose water, the plant can preserve water. Also, the lead is more protected on the bottom-side that on the top-side against insect and bacteria/mold damage that might destrot these critical organs.
